The work of Pembrokeshire-based artist Madeline Francis is inspired by her home landscape of the Preseli foothills. In her most recent series of work ‘Land in Motion’ she records and shares experiences from months of daily walks in that landscape. Madeline used drawing and photography to record what she was experiencing whilst walking outside; the marks and images informing and leading to the approaches that she took towards larger works, made in her studio. She says of the work that it:
“aims to capture a moment in time, distilling the essence of being present in that sense of place.”

These are radiant and beautiful paintings, communicating warmth and a sense of connection and wholeness. You can enjoy seeing her work at the Carmarthen School of Art Fine Art Summer Show (10-17 July), the old Top Shop, St Catherine’s Walk, Carmarthen. Alternatively, you can see them online at the art school’s virtual show.
