Doing some work on my large drawing today, the one based on ripples in water.
I’ve added egg tempera paint, made with egg yolk, pigment and water – a most magical substance with a beautiful surface and shine. Just mixing it is such a pleasure!

I love how this is starting to look. I appreciate the photos of individual sections, to get a better look.

doesn’t the egg yolk go mouldy?

No – not on the painting – maybe because its very thin layers? Its a very old method of mixing pigments into a paint, pre-dating oil paint I think. The bit left in the mixing cup is going mouldy mind you…
